EQUIPMENT: Out of the Box

Energy Savings Now a Breeze

Structural Concepts' new EnergyWise refrigeration system features all energy-efficient components — including an exclusive energy-saving hot gas evaporator pan — as standard.

EnergyWise is the newest generation of the Breeze slide-out refrigeration system, which offers the additional benefits of reduced operating costs and environmentally friendly operation. The new system reduces total daily energy consumption of refrigerated display cases more than 50 percent, according to the Muskegon, Mich.-based vendor, saving 22.5 kilowatt-hours per day and up to $1,000 a year in electricity costs. It does this by replacing the traditional "energy hog" electric condensate pan with a more efficient system that uses hot gas, a byproduct from the refrigeration system, to evaporate water from the defrost cycle. This "greener" hot-gas system is also more reliable because the hot-gas condensate pan doesn't rely on a float system to tell it to heat up.

EnergyWise is an option on the company's Oasis open-front refrigerated (CO model) display cases, and is now on the BOX Series of "front-breathing" refrigerated air screen cases made for alcoves and other tight spots.

Hanging in There

S a l e m , Mass.-based Rose Displays' ZipLines signage cables were designed to make it easy to hang graphics from varying ceiling heights during multi-store rollouts. ZipLines' cable length can be adjusted in 3-inch increments with the touch of a button, up to 60 inches in length — which means that the same cable length can be ordered regardless of ceiling height, and customized in seconds by in-store staff. To adjust, users hold the release button to lengthen or shorten the cable.

Each unit can be attached and repositioned on standard ceiling grids, and a secure hook design ensures that graphics are held safely. ZipLines can be used with hole-punched graphics by retailers looking to save money, or with graphic holders for a more upscale look.

Outdoor LEDs

Display lighting solutions provider LSI's three decorative pedestrian scale area light fixtures, called the Enterprise, Intrepid and Lexington, are now available with an energy-efficient LED light source.

Built around LSI's SmartTec intelligence platform, these Decorative Pedestrian Area Lights are designed specially to light pathways and walkway areas such as those leading to the store's entrance.

As a part of LSI's Crossover LED product family, the fixtures deliver exceptional uniformity with full cutoff to create a brighter environment at lower light levels. These fixtures provide performance equal to, or better than, existing standard HID alternatives, according to Cincinnati-based LSI.

In common with all LSI Crossover LED fixtures, the Crossover LED line delivers the following:

Energy savings up to 42 percent when compared with metal halide An expected life of a minimum 60,000 to 100,000 hours, depending on the ambient temperature of the installation location Reduced maintenance costs Sleek traditional and modern fixture designs, with no finned heat sinks to interfere with the looks or collect dirt and grime A five-year warranty
Additionally, the Enterprise, Intrepid and Lexington fixtures are built from interchangeable modular components and have a variety of mounting options for complete design control.
