SmartNow, PBH, Launch Nutritional Grocery Guide App

March 6, 2010

SmartNow, a provider of health-and-wellness information to the health care industry, corporations and consumers, last week launched a comprehensive nutritional grocery guide for the iPhone with more than 100,000 unique, branded products categorized.

Called Shop Healthy!, the app — which provides nutritional facts, nutritional label information and health rankings for each product — was developed by Wilmington, Del.-based SmartNow’s chief medical officer, Melina Jampolis, M.D., a graduate of Tufts Medical School who is also board certified in nutrition. Jampolis worked with a team of dietitians to categorize and rank foods based on optimal nutritional guidelines.

“After years of explaining to my patients how to ship smarter at the grocery store, I decided to create an iPhone app that would do the same thing for everyone,” said Jampolis. “Shop Healthy! is almost as good as having me pushing the cart down the aisle with [a shopper].”

Shop Healthy! also includes tips on how to select and store specific fruits and vegetables. This information, along with facts about each fruit and vegetable, was provided by Wilmington-based Produce for Better Health Foundation, a nonprofit with the mission of motivating people to eat more fruits and vegetables through the “Fruits Veggies-More Matters” national public health initiative.

The application is available for 99 cents at the Apple store. For more information, visit http://www.smartnow.com/shophealthy/.
