Kmart to Launch Online Grocery Deliveries in Chicago Area

June 29, 2010

Mygofer.com, Kmart’s online delivery service, will start delivering groceries, prescriptions, electronics and other products around the Chicago area, beginning July 4.

Initially, the service will be offered from the northern suburbs into areas south of downtown Chicago, with future expansion possible, according to local press reports. Examples of items delivered from online orders include a bunch of organic bananas for $1.39, a microwave for $51.99 and a pound of Oscar Mayer bacon for $6.29. Deliveries are made on the same day, the following day and up to two weeks out.

The service lets shoppers set up one-time deliveries or deliveries for specific times each week. Until now, Chicago-area shoppers could order at Mygofer.com but had to have the order shipped or pick up items at the Mygofer store in Joliet, Ill., or a Kmart store offering pickup service.

Edward Lampert, chairman of Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Sears Holdings Corp., has said he wants Sears and Kmart to join in the revolution started by such companies as Apple and Amazon.com that have altered the face of retailing.
