Ghirardelli Squares Chocolate Launches ‘Sweet’ Sweepstakes

March 8, 2010

Ghirardelli Squares Chocolate has rolled out the Million Moments of Timeless Pleasure sweepstakes, which asks consumers to share their favorite “Ghirardelli moment” for the opportunity to win a trip or one of literally thousands of chocolate prizes. Choice consumer-supplied moments will be broadcast at the fabled crossroads of the world — New York’s Times Square — as well as streamed live via an interactive Web site where they can be viewed by visitors from throughout the United States.

“Our customers have told us that there are a million different moments during the day when they reach for our premium chocolate, such as for a burst of energy after a long day or as a special reward after a big success,” explained Mona Maher, VP of marketing at San Francisco-based Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. “We wanted to capture all of these ‘sweet’ little moments and reward fans with even more of their favorite rich chocolate and luscious fillings!”

Regarding the big broadcast, “We’re so excited to hear from our fans that we’re even giving them a chance to see their moments in lights, on a special billboard in Times Square,” noted Maher. “[T]hrough the end of April, consumers’ moments will be running in Times Square — and streaming through our interactive Web site — for fans across the country to see and share.”

Through Oct. 31, consumers can submit their moment at www.ghirardellimoments.com and automatically be entered to win a trip to one of four legendary squares: Times Square, Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, St. Marks Square in Venice or Trafalgar Square in London. As well as the all-expenses-paid trip, entrants are also eligible to win thousands of instant chocolate prizes, among them bags of Ghirardelli Squares and Ghirardelli gift baskets. One individual will win free chocolate for a year. Consumers can enter a moment each day for even more chances to win.

In addition, consumers in 10 cities will receive free samples of Ghirardelli Squares throughout March and April. In conjunction with the contest, Ghirardelli will hand out 1 million pieces of chocolate in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington. Consumers can track the Ghirardelli Squares team on its itinerary by following the company on Twitter @GhirardelliTour.

Ghirardelli Squares standup bags, containing 4.69 ounces to 5.32 ounces of chocolate, retail for about $3.69. Varieties include Milk Chocolate with Caramel, Solid Dark Chocolate (60% Cacao), Milk Chocolate with Peanut Butter, and Dark Chocolate with Caramel (60% Cacao).
